Reduced Impact from Running = Reduced Risk of Injury

Would you agree?

Here’s a FREE demonstration of how you can reduce impact from running:

Step 1: Jump up and down gently and repeatedly on the spot.

Step 2: Take a second to think about where you are landing – are you landing on the balls of your feet or your heels?

Step 3: Do the opposite.

Runner’s knee, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, achilles tendinitis, ITBS, sprains and strains all have one thing in common: high impact exercise increases the risk. So reducing the impact will therefore reduce the chance of you suffering from it.

Repeat the demonstration again – and take the time to feel the difference between the two. The impact is less when you land on the balls of your feet, yet when we run, most of us heel strike. Now take the time to imagine that force going through one leg instead of two, just as it would when you run. Is it any wonder that the injuries listed above are so prevalent in runners?

There are many benefits of exercise during pregnancy:

  • Recover more rapidly

From the baby’s point of view, studies have shown a number of short-term and long-term benefits. These include showing signs of higher endurance during labour, a favourable heart rate and better behavioural responses.

Many common complaints of pregnancy including fatigue, varicose veins and joint swelling/oedema are significantly reduced in women who exercise.The difficult question for you to answer is what exercise you should be doing.

Good posture is often associated with holding a static position, but this is not the case. In order to protect the body against injury/deformity, the body must be able to maintain balance whilst moving.

The muscles in our body are arranged in chains; combinations of muscles that work as one unit rather than in isolation. If one of the muscles in the chain becomes weaker/stronger it will create an imbalance in the chain and dysfunction will strike. If not corrected, this dysfunction can prevent the body from moving in healthy patterns and will inevitably cause damage resulting in pain/discomfort.

The Postural Analysis and Corrective Exercise (PACE) clinics have been specifically designed to identify any postural weaknesses and to supply you with the exercises to correct them.
